DRP30 publishes news, analysis, and opinion for an American audience. These standards are intended to keep those formats clearly separated and to make our reporting process understandable to readers.
Accuracy before amplification
We do not knowingly publish fabricated quotations, invented sources, altered documents, or unverified allegations as established fact. High-impact claims involving elections, government conduct, criminal accusations, public officials, national security, or public safety should be supported by reliable evidence before publication.
Source hierarchy
Whenever practical, we begin with primary material such as statutes, bills, congressional records, court opinions, official dockets, agency documents, election-administration records, transcripts, public datasets, and direct on-the-record statements. We may corroborate those materials with reporting from established news organizations and subject-matter experts.
Attribution and context
Claims made by politicians, campaigns, advocacy groups, companies, attorneys, witnesses, or government agencies are attributed to the person or institution making them. Attribution is not the same as verification. When credible evidence contradicts a claim, relevant context should be included.
Headlines
Headlines should be strong and readable without materially overstating what the underlying reporting establishes. Questions, allegations, projections, and preliminary findings should not be presented as final facts.
News, analysis and opinion
News coverage is written to report verified developments and material competing facts. Analysis may explain implications while remaining grounded in evidence. Opinion reflects commentary and is labeled Opinion or otherwise clearly identified.
Artificial intelligence
AI tools may assist with research organization, transcription, language editing, headline alternatives, or workflow tasks. They are not treated as authoritative sources. Factual claims generated or summarized by automated tools must be checked against reliable source material before publication.
Corrections
Material factual errors are corrected transparently under our Corrections & Fact-Checking Policy.
